I am a musician who really wants to write music, but I've just never had the spark to get it going. I've always dabbled, but I've never produced anything viable simply due to the fact that I have a lack of talent in the lyrical portion of songwriting, and because many of my progressions end up sounding very much similar (just in different keys). I like to try to use some of the musical influences that I've had to influence my music; however, I can never seem to replicate the sound of the styles that I like. But your site has just set a spark inside me. And to tell you the honest truth, the thing that drew my attention the most, and the thing that I am most impressed with is the fact that you are an active and participating and strong Christian!! That is AWESOME! I really want to try to write Christian Emo music, because in my experiences, I really haven't seen any bands in that genre that sing Christian lyrics. Marge - Yes, I did receive your songwriting book and I like the simpleness of it! My songwriting partner and I have written over 150 songs together, before I even realized I didn't know anything about "meter" ......ugh..........I put words to his melodies by listening to the lead lines, and he sets my lyrics. With the help of your book, plus working with a recording engineer and music major right up the road from me, I sure hope to learn as much as I can absorb about correctly writing songs!
